Remedies for a Malady
Maladaptive Daydreaming
Though you might have matched up with the symptoms, you can't exactly go to your therapist or your local psychologist and blurt that you are mentally ill,
They will probably laugh at your face !!!
Probably it's better you save yourself the embarrassment !
It just isn't out there like it's psychological troublesome brethren,
Probably because the patient has clear distiction of reality and imagination.
But the daydreaming are so immersive that you might end up having your productive time all spent up, you might have trouble sleeping, having your dreams in rewind mode. But these simple steps might help you to maintain your creative sanity 😅.
1. Maintain a fixed time.
Like they say, old habits die hard.
And that's especially true for daydreams as it functions as an escape mechanism for anyone who gets fed up with reality.
Like every habit..and all addictions in general, we can only wean ourselves off this urge to escape reality slowly, but surely.
Set yourself a fixed time to let out your imagination stuffed within you,
( not as when you look at that teacher you got a crush on, in class!! , That's a definite No No !!)
Like when you have your visits to the bathroom, or as you lull yourself to sleep.
Always remember,
Consistency is key .
2. Get yourself that beauty sleep.
Sleep is always essential for your mental stability, and the same goes for your daydreaming.
Insomnia has always been a common problem seen among the creative community, and although it paves way for innovation and creativity, it takes a toll on the mind.
But don't oversleep, taking this as an excuse !.
3. Watch out for triggers !
Triggers are everywhere, those adrenaline pumped songs you here to get your morning workouts done, to the movies you watch to wile away your time.
Every media you consume has an effect on you,be it positive or negative.
So be wary of their effects, and cut down all possible distractions they might bring.
4. Meditation
Last, but not the least, Meditating always brings you a fresh outlook and sweeps away distractions.
Now i don't mean must achieve "Zen" level of enlightenment, and turn yourself into Buddhist Monk or something.( Hey, it's your choice if you want to wink..wink.!)
But taking time to meditate, be it your prayers or yoga, can activate those much needed dopamine and endorphin receptors, and give a drastic rise to your daily productivity.
So, without further ado, i end this monologue hoping you have attained an understanding of resisting your creative "urges",
If you know what i mean 😜😉...
